5 Awesome Free MMORPGs you NEED to Check Out

There are hundreds of free MMORPGs out there. Thousands if you count all the free browser games. Out of every game out there though, there are a few that you just NEED to know about. A few games that are MUST plays. I’ve played at least a hundred of these free to play MMORPGs over the years, and out of all the games I played here’s a list of my 5 favorite (in no particular order), that if you haven’t played, you absolutely must check out!

Atlantica Online

Atlantica Online is a cool 3D turn based MMORPG that’s really fun. If you’re a fan of single player RPGs like Final Fantasy, there’s no reason not to give Atlantica Online a try! The game is by Ndoors, who also makes Luminary: Rise of the Goonzu and WonderKing. Where Atlantica Online really shines is its gorgeous graphics and innovative gameplay. Atlantica Online was the first real 3D turn based MMORPG ever! The client isn’t that big and many sites called it one of the best MMORPGs ever, so this one is truly a gem!

Dungeons and Dragons Online

I’m not going to lie. I never would have played Dungeons of Dragons Online if it never went free to play. But since Turbine made Dungeons and Dragons online 100% free to play, I can safely say I’ve sunk at least a hundred hours into the game. Maybe more. What makes Dungeons and Dragons Online fun in my opinion is its action oriented gameplay (No point and click nonsense!) and high production value. I’m not sure how much the game cost to develop, but I’m sure its more than most F2P games! The voice acting is great and the story telling is enchanting. I look forward to playing Lord of the Rings Online in Fall 2010 when it goes free to play too. Do yourself a favor and try this game!

Runes of Magic

Runes of Magic is easily one of the most popular free MMORPGs out there. The game is by Frogster and is one of the best fantasy MMORPGs ever. It does play a lot like World of Warcraft, but in my opinion that’s a good thing, not a bad thing! The game’s coolest aspect in my opinion is its dual-classing system. Aside from Runes of Magic the only other game that has dual classing is Guild Wars from NCsoft. If you don’t want to keep paying for World of Warcraft, Runes of Magic is the best WoW clone currently available, and a free to play one too! If for some reason you don’t like Runes of Magic and Like WoW, you can try Gates of Andaron. It’s also a free WoW clone.

Aika Online

gPotato has struck gold with Aika Online. This epic PvP MMORPG is a must play for any fan of Realm vs Realm battles. The game came out in early 2010 and has large scale 1000 vs 1000 PvP battles. Aika Online also has some gorgeous 3D graphics. Skip gPotato’s other games (Rappelz, Fly for Fun and Luna Online) and jump right into Aika. You’ll love it! It’s one of the best fantasy MMORPGs I’ve ever played. Also don’t think the game is entirely PvP based. There’s a lot of good PvE stuff as well.

Secret of the Solstice

I wanted to include at least one non-generic fantasy MMORPG on this list. Even though Secret of the Solstice is fantasy themed, the camera angles and art style is different. The game is by Outspark (ppl behind Fiesta Online, Fists of Fu and Divine Souls). Graphically, the game is very similar to Ragnarok Online, but gameplay wise its a bit different. The game has a bunch of playable classes and really awesome music. If you’ve played Ragnarok Online from Gravity

and enjoyed it, Secret of the Solstice should be up your alley!
