Empty Free to Play MMORPGs

There are a lot of successful free MMORPGs like Runes of Magic and Hero Online, but there are also a bunch of less popular ones. Games like Fairyland Online, Kuso Party (SubaGames) and Endless Online are completely empty. I remember back when I tried these games out they had NO players. I literally spent time looking for other people, but couldn’t find ANYONE else in the game. I kind of wish the server selection screen displayed how many players were logged in, because I’m convinced Fairyland Online only had 1 person online, me. It’s always sad to see empty games, because it means they will eventually shut down.

It’s not surprising that the Fairyland Online servers are empty, as the game itself sucks. But seeing a game like RF Online empty is truly disappointing. RF Online is a genuinely fun game and one of the only few Sci-Fi MMORPGs left in the free to play scene. I don’t think RF Online is the best game out there, but it definitely deserves a higher playerbase. I think the game is so empty because ever since Codemasters shut down the service in 2008 or so, no one realized that PlayRF.com picked up the service and relaunched the game globally. Mytheon from UTV True Games is another game that deserves a much bigger playerbase than it currently has. I should mention, Mytheon is in a different league than the games I talked about, as its not nearly as “empty” as those games. The game itself is awesome and is a mix between Diablo 2 and The Chronicles of Spellborn. Gameplay feels fresh and the graphics look great. There’s no reason not to try it. It sucks to see the game stagnating though. It could be stagnating because it’s not officially released yet. I suspect UTV True Games will focus on marketing the game after it finishes beta testing.

K.O.S. Secret Operations from YNK Interactive is one of the least popular MMOFPS out there, but in my opinion is one of the best. It plays almost exactly like Counter-Strike: Source, except free to play. This is probably so because the game uses the Valve Source Engine. Sure, it’s not unique, but a free to play Counter-Strike: Source is good enough for me. I think it’s ridiculous that an older less balanced MMOFPS like Soldier Front has a bigger playerbase than something awesome and new like K.O.S. Secret Operations. If you haven’t played it yet, definitely give it a chance, you won’t regret it. While you’re at it, play Mytheon too!
